Travel Essentials

"Travel while you're young and able. Don't worry about the money, just make it work. Experience is far more valuable than money will ever be."

I am sooo excited, you guys!

"Why, Massella"?, I bet you're wondering. Well, because this weekend I'm off on another travel adventure. As you may remember from my Bali post, I love to travel. Planning for this trip began in February so I'm super happy that it's finally here.

Details:

One of my best friends, Sita, lives in London. We try to make sure that we see each other at least once a year. We went to college together, which is where we met, and pretty much saw each other every day. Having an ocean between us has definitely been an adjustment, but has strengthened our friendship. She has no choice but to be my friend #sorrynotsorry. We've done a few trips together and our most recent European tour was Switzerland, London, and Paris. Sita is a great travel companion. I can always count on her to be easy-going, fun, open to anything and everything, and she's like my sister so we just get one another. We'll be taking this trip with our other best friend Cathy! We also met Cathy in college (#NYUPRIDE). My sweet Cathy is the best. She's the QUEEN when it comes to travel and my adventure buddy in NYC. We try a bunch of new restaurants together, go to museums, and take advantage of the city as best as we can. If I'm doing anything cool in New York, 9 times out of 10, it's with Cathy. I talk to these two basically every day so they know all of the details of my life (good and bad), which makes it so nice to be in one space together, catching up, hugging, and making new memories!

Where are we going this time?

  • London, Portugal (Lisbon & Algarve), and Paris (ahhhhh)

How long?

  • About two weeks

Why London and Paris again?

  • I love London. If I found the right job and/or the right man, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Also, it's a lot cheaper to fly there and then go to Portugal, so why not kill two birds with one stone? I'm also convinced I'll meet my hot Brit on a plane. That would require me being on a plane haha, so I have to maximize my opportunity. I'm a strategic gal if you haven't noticed! ;)
  • Paris, *sigh*, this portion of the trip is only about 3 days, super quick, in and out, and revolves around eating everything! Also, this will be Cathy's first time there. Paris is pure magic. It's not a city I'd like to live in, but you seriously feel whimsical. I cannot wait to be back!
  • Fun fact: I've actually been to Lisbon before. I went with my family a few years ago, but we only stopped there during a layover for about a half a day, so it will be fun to explore with my girls.

Ok, without further ado...

Travel Essentials

(summer/beach vacay edition!)

Thanks for bearing with me as I walked you through the details of this trip. I won't be blogging while I'm away, so make sure to follow me on Instagram if you want to see what I'm up to. I am so so excited to get back and get some fun content up. Let me know what you want to know about in the comments, but in general I'll be sharing pictures, where to stay, what to eat, and what to do. #getexcited

What do you pack when you're traveling? Are you an overpacker? Are you efficient?

In the last few years I've tried to become more efficient, but I also just really want to take fun pics so I probably overpack tons of outfits. Options! I like options. Nonetheless, when I'm headed on a beach/ warm weather vacation here are my must haves.

1. Sunglasses

You need to protect your eyes from those UV rays AND you need to look like the perfectly chic gem that you are. I recently picked up (read: impulse purchased) a new pair of Warby Parkers. These are the Bonnies and they're part of the new Field Series. They're oversized with a layered brushed gold and tortoise rim. You can purchase them here. I used to work for Warby Parker so I love incorporating a brand that I'm passionate about and truly support. #seesummerbetter

2. The Perfect Lipstick

I like a little color on my lips when I'm out in the heat but I don't necessarily want anything that's too opaque or heavy. This Saint Laurent lipstick is a satin finish called Rouge Vermillion, a raspberry-red, shade 4 to be specific. It goes on super smooth and is a bitten type of color. It can look sort of sheer depending on how you apply it. I really love that even though it's pink it has a naturalness to it. Purchase it here.

3. Sunscreen

Protect your self! Sunscreen is muy importante. I love Coola's spray version. It comes in a few scents but my favorite is the Tropical Coconut. It comes in other SPF strengths, but I use the 30. Coola is an organic suncare brand, so all of their products are free of parabens, sulfates, and, phthalates. It is water resistant for 40 minutes and contains cucumber, algae, and raspberry seed oil. Check it out.

4. Setting Spray

This stuff is amazing, so I would recommend that you use it all the time and not just on vacation. I tend to get oily in my t-zone, especially if it's super hot, even if I'm not wearing makeup. Urban Decay's de-slick keeps you fresh and set with its Temperature Control Technology. During the day, I plan to opt for little to minimal makeup, but it's fun to spice things up at night. I'm going to guess it will be humid so this setting spray will prevent any melting. Check it out here.

5. Dry Shampoo

I can't wash my hair every day. Doing that is actually pretty terrible for you regardless. That being said, overly-oily hair can be gross, so thank the good Lord for dry shampoo. This is more of a "hold-your-hair-together" type tool before you do wash and shouldn't be used as a full replacement. I used Drybar's Detox Dry Shampoo for several months and liked it, but I wanted to try something new. I've heard great things about Living Proof, so I'll let you know how it holds up once I get back.

6. Cleansing Towelettes

When it's hot sometimes you just need to cool down and get the dirt, sweat, and oils off. These towelettes from Clinique do the job for me. You can get the packages in various sizes. They're great for sensitive skin as well and are made with micellar water as the cleansing solution. I use these more for cleansing than makeup removal, but they work for that too.

7. Perfume

Not everyone is into perfume, but I love a rich fragrance. This one, Orchid Soleil, by Tom Ford, might be a bit strong for some, but I'm obsessed. It's a mixture of patchouli, spider lily accord, black orchid, chestnut, and vanilla. What's really cool is seeing how your body chemistry evolves the notes over time. It's super sexy and is sure to be distinct on a night out. #notbasic

8. Lip Balm

This is my go-to lip balm whether or not I'm on vacation. Check out my review here. Being sun-kissed and kissable go hand-in-hand!

9. Passport

🔑🔑🔑  Kind of really super duper important (for international travel that is). Don't forget your passport!! #majorkey :)
